Biography

Ramin Cherafat joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Board of Directors in 2023.  He previously served on the Economic Advisory Council.

Ramin Cherafat serves as chief executive officer of McCownGordon Construction and played an integral role in establishing the firm as one of the nation’s largest general contractors. He has more than 25 years of experience in the construction industry and a track record of delivering overall business growth. Mr. Cherafat has been with the company for 22 years and serves on the Board of Directors and leads the Executive Team.

Under Mr. Cherafat’s leadership, McCownGordon opened a Dallas-Fort Worth Office in the fall of 2021, as well as launching a national business unit focused on building solutions for the manufacturing industry. The company is on pace to achieve record sales in 2022. McCownGordon ranked for 17 consecutive years as a “Best Places to Work” by KC Business Journal. Additionally, the Wichita regional office was recognized by the Wichita Business Journal as a “Best Place to Work” its first two years. McCownGordon Construction has also been recognized by Fortune Magazine as one of the Top 100 Medium Sized Company’s in the United States to work for in 2018 and 2020, and as one of the 2019 and 2021 Best Workplaces for Millennials. Named 2019’s #1 General Contractor by the KC Association of American Subcontractors, the company also achieved First place in 2020’s Safety Excellence Award by Kansas City Builders Association.

Mr. Cherafat currently serves as the Board chair for the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, as well as serving on the Board of Directors of The Civic Council of Greater Kansas City, the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Community College Foundation, the Board of Trustees for the University of Missouri – Kansas City and the Board of Trustees for The Nelson Atkins Museum of Art.

Mr. Cherafat also supports various charitable organizations in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area including the Children’s Mercy Hospital, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Metropolitan Community College, and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.

Mr. Cherafat holds a B.S. in Construction Management from Kansas State University and an M.B.A. from University of Missouri Kansas City.
