Emil Ramirez was appointed to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Economic Advisory Council on Jan. 1, 2016. Ramirez is the director of United Steelworkers District 11, a district that serves more than 34,000 members throughout nine Midwest states.

Ramirez began his union career as a pipefitter B in 1986 with United Steelworkers Local 15162 in Topeka, Kan. He has had several local, district and national union leadership positions throughout his career and gained extensive negotiating experience with bargaining assignments in the steel, rubber, aluminum, salt, public employees, textile, brick and natural gas industries.

Ramirez represents the United Steelworkers on the Missouri AFL-CIO Unity Table, is a member of the Kansas AFL-CIO Executive Board and currently serves as president of the Kansas State Industrial Union Council.
