Craig Zahnd serves as senior vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. In this role, Zahnd leads the Bank’s Legal Division and serves as advisor to the Bank’s Management Committee, which is responsible for the Kansas City Fed’s strategic planning and policy direction.
Zahnd has nearly 30 years of legal experience and joined the Bank from Swiss Re, where he served as managing director and general counsel of the Americas reinsurance business. In this role, he led a team of attorneys on a range of legal and regulatory matters in the U.S., Canada and Latin America, including analysis of reinsurance laws and regulations, employment law, corporate governance, contracts and legal entity compliance. He also served as location head for Swiss Re’s Kansas City office. Prior to joining Swiss Re, he served at General Electric in a variety of roles, including vice president and associate general counsel. Previously, he was a trial attorney with Shook, Hardy & Bacon in Kansas City, Mo.
Zahnd holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He currently serves on the executive committee of the William Jewell College Board of Trustees and is a member of the Community Support Committee of the Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA).
