KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City will convene its annual Economic Policy Symposium Aug. 27-29 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The 2026 event, which marks the symposium’s 49th year, provides a venue for international central bankers, Federal Reserve officials, policymakers, and academics to discuss issues of mutual concern. This year will focus on the theme “Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy.”
Payment systems are the circulatory system for the economy and interact with monetary policy in myriad ways. Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in innovation in financial intermediation and payments, with new technologies and actors promising to disrupt existing infrastructure. Innovations include new digital payments systems, instant payments, cryptocurrencies, and stablecoins. This year's symposium will explore how the rapid evolution of the payments system has implications for the future of currency, banking, monetary policy implementation, and global financial integration.
The full agenda will be available at External Linkkansascityfed.org on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 8:00 p.m. EDT/6:00 p.m. MDT. Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh’s remarks will be streamed on the Kansas City Fed’s YouTube channel, External Linkwww.youtube.com/kansascityfed, on Friday, Aug. 28, at 10:00 a.m. EDT/8:00 a.m. MDT.
