The Omaha Branch has three interns at the Bank this summer, two in Supervision and Risk Management (SRM) and one in Regional Affairs. Morgan Mastrianni is a third year Ph.D. student at Purdue University’s Agricultural Economics Department and is interning in Regional Affairs. The New Hampshire native received her undergraduate degree in economics and math from Wellesley College and her master’s in applied economics and management from Cornell University.

“My dissertation covers topics in agricultural finance, which is directly related to the work done by the 10th District’s agricultural economists,” she said. “This summer provides me an opportunity to step out of a university setting and find out what’s interesting to a wider range of professionals than I have access to at Purdue.”

Elkhorn native Hannah Lefler is a senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln studying finance and economics. She’s enjoyed learning about the culture at the Bank and how collaborative the environment is. She said people are genuinely invested in helping interns learn as much as possible.

“The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City stood out because of its impact on monetary policy, supervision, and economic research,” she said. “I was drawn to the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in public service finance and to learn from professionals who are contributing to the stability and health of our economy.”

Katherine Palais grew up in Omaha and is studying finance at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She will graduate this December, travel for a month and then hopes to find a job.

“I am interested in finance and public service,” Palais said. “The Bank was a good opportunity to grow professionally while connecting with the community. I’ve enjoyed traveling to throughout the state for exams, making new connections at the Fed and learning more about finance.”

Interns at the bank engage in many activities including professional development, networking and skill-building. July 31 is National Intern Day.
