What does Jeff do as president of the Kansas City Fed?
As president of the Kansas City Fed, Jeff leads a workforce of nearly 2,000 staff across the Tenth Federal Reserve District and represents the region on the Federal Open Market Committee, which sets monetary policy for the United States. He participates in each FOMC meeting and is a voting member in 2025, following the established rotation schedule for Federal Reserve Banks. He also hosts the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium, an annual event in Wyoming that brings together international central bankers, academics, policymakers, and others who convene to discuss economic and financial issues of mutual concern. A Federal Reserve Bank president’s responsibilities fall into three broad areas:
- A policymaker and policy advisor
- The CEO of the organization
- A contributor to Federal Reserve System leadership
These distinct roles each require a commitment to public service and the ability to effectively communicate and build working relationships with the Federal Reserve’s various stakeholders and audiences. External LinkAccording to the Board of Governors, a Federal Reserve Bank president should:
- Guide the Bank’s economic research and gathering economic intelligence
- Provide insights to Federal Open Market Committee policy discussions
- Communicates clearly about monetary policy
- Is a strong chief executive officer of the Bank
- Ensures the Bank maintains an effective system of bank supervision by carrying out its delegated authority from the Board of Governors •
- Makes strong personal contributions to matters requiring collective System action or direction
