FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 25, 2026
The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City has released new interactive data tools to provide economic insights into low- and moderate-income (LMI) populations. The LMI Data Books allow users with minimal data experience to explore and visualize public data on demographics, employment, wages, and housing for every county in the Kansas City Fed’s seven-state region, which includes Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and parts of Missouri and New Mexico.
Organizations and government agencies serving LMI populations can use the tools to support their services and better understand the economic conditions for the populations they serve. Additionally, the general public can use the tools to easily see economic conditions in their communities, particularly for LMI populations for whom conditions are often difficult to assess.
The LMI Data Books allow users to quickly and easily sort through publicly available demographic and economic data to identify trends in LMI communities. Key findings in the initial release include:
- Across the Tenth District, wages for low- and moderate-wage jobs have not increased as quickly as wages for middle- and high- wage jobs.
- Housing price increases have slowed in most communities, and the pace of the slowdown has been similar across most LMI and non-LMI communities.
- Rent prices in LMI communities have declined on average but increased in some areas, such as Wyandotte County, Kansas.
