Monica Abeita was appointed to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City’s Community Development Advisory Council on Jan. 1, 2023. Abeita is executive director of the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD), an association of local units of government created to encourage and allow regional cooperation on a multitude of issues. NCNMEDD serves Colfax, Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Santa Fe, Taos and rural Sandoval counties.

Prior to joining NCNMEDD, Abeita served in various leadership roles with the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA), the state’s housing finance agency. She also recently served on the board of directors of the Ventana Fund, a statewide multifamily community development financial institution (CDFI).

Abeita has a bachelor’s degree in comparative literature from the Colorado College and a master’s degree in community and regional planning from the University of New Mexico.
