Omaha Branch Director Annette Hamilton is chief operating officer of Ho-Chunk Inc., the economic development arm of the tribe. Ho-Chunk Inc. strives to create economic opportunities that help the tribe achieve self-sufficiency and improve the community. As part of the visit, officials of the tribe explained Ho-Chunk’s history and mission. The Bank leaders toured the village of Winnebago and visited some of Ho-Chunk’s businesses and projects in the area.

In July 2021, President George spoke to Reserve Bank employees during a town hall hosted by Bank Historian Timothy Todd. The event was conducted in-person and live-streamed to remote workers.

In Albuquerque, President George visited Kansas City Fed Director María Griego-Raby, founder, principal and president of Contract Associates Inc. Griego-Raby joined the Bank’s Kansas City Board of Directors in 2021. Earlier she served on the Tenth District’s Economic Advisory Council.

In July 2021, President George stopped in the Omaha area to visit former Kansas City Fed director Terry Moore. Moore, retired president of the Omaha AFL-CIO, has the longest director service record in the Tenth District. He served a total of 15 years – two terms on the Kansas City Fed Board, two years on the Omaha Branch Board and two terms on the District’s Economic Advisory Council. At the time of his retirement from the AFL-CIO, Moore was the longest-serving elected labor leader in

the country.

President Esther George was among the guests for an October 2021 banquet in Kansas City celebrating the training advancement of Sheet Metal Workers apprentices. The banquet was hosted by Sheet Metal Workers Local Union #2, an affiliate of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association. Apprentices were recognized for completing a portion of their studies through the union’s Journeyman and Apprentice Training Center.

Sheet Metal Workers Local #2 Business Manager Greg Chastain (center) and Financial Secretary Jay Lind presented a lantern to President George. The lantern was made by one of the union’s retired instructors.

In one of her first in-person speaking engagements of 2021, President George traveled to Colorado Springs in September to deliver remarks at the 74th West Annual Meeting of the Council of State Governments. The Council, founded in 1933, is the country’s largest nonpartisan organization serving states’ elected and appointed officials.

President Esther George spoke to the Denver and Kansas City Student Boards of Directors in November as the Tenth District program kicked off for 2021-2022. She spoke to the students about her experience as a Reserve Bank president and discussed her career path. The Student Board of Directors program provides opportunities for students to learn about the nation’s central bank as well as increase their understanding of economic, financial and occupational topics through collaboration with peers and business leaders.

President Esther George at her first in-person public speaking engagement since March 2020. George addressed the Oklahoma Bankers Association at their annual convention and retirement celebration for long time OBA president, Roger Beverage, on May 26, 2021.

In June 2020, Esther George was interviewed via videoconference by Omaha television station KETV. George discussed the Fed’s response during the pandemic and shared her outlook for the economy. Coincidentally a window-cleaning service was working at the Bank’s office.
