Yusuf Mercan is a senior economist in the Economic Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Yusuf joined the department in October 2023. Before, he was an assistant professor of economics at the University of Melbourne between 2018 and 2023.
Yusuf holds a BS degree in industrial engineering from Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey and a PhD degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. Yusuf’s research fields are macroeconomics and labor economics, studying topics ranging from unemployment dynamics and worker and job flows to the interaction of monetary and fiscal policies with the labor market.
