About the Omaha Branch

The Omaha Branch is one of three branches of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Staff at the Omaha Branch focus on economic research, public outreach, community development, bank supervision, information technology and financial services.

We support the Federal Reserve's roles in:

Monetary policy, including reporting on local and state-wide economic conditions
Bank supervision and regulation of Nebraska financial institutions
Financial services including work for the U.S. Treasury

We work to understand the region's economy and serve as a resource to Nebraska businesses and communities. Our staff:

Provide insight and analysis on Nebraska's economy.
Lead research on the agricultural economy for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and the Federal Reserve System.
Build relationships, coordinate public outreach, and promote economic and financial education and greater knowledge of the Federal Reserve.

Support community economic growth among low and moderate income and disadvantaged communities through research, resources and relationships with with economic developers and small business owners.
Promote a safe, stable and competitive banking system through the supervision and regulation of financial institutions while also providing proactive outreach to state member banks and bank holding companies.
Host Economic Forums and speak to groups across the state to provide insights on the regional and national economy.

Omaha Branch Board of Directors

Each Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City has its own seven-member Board of Directors. The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City appoints four of these directors, while the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. appoints the other three directors. Branch directors serve three-year terms and provide Omaha Branch Executive Nate Kauffman with insight on regional economic conditions as well as advice and counsel.

Omaha Branch Executive Nate Kauffman spoke with students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney about the Federal Reserve, monetary policy and the economy in November, 2023.

During a visit to Valentine, Nebraska, last October, Omaha Branch Executive Nate Kauffman met with business and community leaders to hear firsthand about local economic conditions and concerns.

Omaha Branch Executive Nate Kauffman toured the University of Nebraska Medical Center last October. He had the opportunity to experience the advanced learning technology offered by the iEXCEL program at the Davis Global Center on UNMC’s campus, including the holographic theater and Laser CAVE 5 immersive environment.

The Nebraska Economics and Business Association hosted the Great Plains Economics and Business Conference at the Omaha Branch last October. Omaha Branch Executive Nate Kauffman welcomed the group and shared an update on the regional and national economy.

The Omaha Branch welcomed emerging leaders and young professionals from a range of businesses and nonprofits across the Omaha metro area for a roundtable discussion last November. This was an opportunity to hear their perspectives on conditions impacting the community and the economy.

In August, Senior Vice President and Omaha Branch Executive Nate Kauffman met with several Omaha area healthcare leaders for a roundtable discussion at the University of Nebraska Medical Center to learn more about economic conditions in the healthcare field.

At the Nebraska Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s July networking breakfast, Nate Kauffman shared an overview of the Federal Reserve and described the role of the Omaha Branch as a local connection to the nation’s central bank.

During a tour of the Waterford Building in west Omaha last July, the Omaha Branch Board of Directors gained insights on recent trends in commercial real estate.

Last June, Senior Vice President and Omaha Branch Executive spoke at the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce’s Summer Ag Forum in Hastings, Nebraska.

As the Kansas City Fed’s principal expert on the agricultural economy, Nate Kauffman provided an update on financial conditions in the ag sector with members of Nebraska’s congressional delegation last summer at a panel discussion on the state of the farm economy hosted at Farm Credit Services of America.
