The Future of Workforce Development
The world of workforce development is changing. The workforce is facing a number of significant pressures in the current economy, including:
- Forecasts of sustained high unemployment
- Fiscal constraints affecting traditional state and federal funding sources
- Shifts in worker demographics
- The structure of employment opportunities
- The nature of work
The Future of Workforce Development Conference addressed these issues through keynote addresses, panel presentations and facilitated discussions by leading practitioners, researchers and funders in the field. A particular focus was placed on the effect of these workforce changes on low- and moderate-income communities, the long-term unemployed and other hard to employ groups.
The conference was attended by a diverse national audience of workforce development stakeholders. Included among these were university researchers and staff, policy organizations, workforce development organizations, community and economic development organizations, employers and government agencies.
