Financial Empowerment Training for Social Service Professionals

Social service and labor organizations often work to integrate financial capability into services for low- and moderate-income families. From emergency assistance programs, long-term case management or supporting the workforce, they understand the clients' need for accurate information.

To better equip organizations in meeting client needs, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the United Way of Greater Kansas City are partnering to provide training to area case managers and frontline staff through the Your Money, Your Goals toolkit of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

This interactive training will prepare attendees to use the CFPB's Your Money, Your Goals toolkit and provides foundational information on a variety of financial topics. Attendees will learn how to adapt tools to each client's situation and help clients:

  • Set goals and calculate how much money they need to reach their goals
  • Save money and establish an emergency savings fund
  • Track the specific ways they are using their money
  • Balance their budgets
  • Access and use tax refunds
  • Get and review their credit reports
  • Fix errors on their credit reports
  • Recognize when they may have been treated unfairly and know how to take action

Attendees will receive a bound copy of the English version of the toolkit. Spanish-language toolkits also are available. Lunch will be provided.
