Payday Loan Alternatives: The role of workplace small-dollar loans

February 28, 2017

About this event

Join us for an informational luncheon to learn about workplace small-dollar loans as an alternative to payroll advances and payday loans on February 28 at the Oklahoma City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Many hard working individuals find themselves without the financial resources they need from time to time due to emergencies or unexpected expenses. Without good credit, they often turn to costly payday or signature loans.

Workplace small-dollar loans offer a promising alternative with a proven track record of benefits for both employers and workers. Examples of loan products that have been developed and scaled by a community financial institution and an innovative group of employers will be presented.

This program will discuss:

  • Research findings on small-dollar loan programs by the FINRA Investor Education Foundation and Filene Research Institute
  • Features of an appropriate loan product that helps build a worker's credit and savings
  • Information on how to set up a workplace small-dollar loan program
  • Potential benefits for employers, workers and their communities

This event is presented by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City in partnership with the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
