A few of our Student Board of Director members return each summer as activity directors for Summer @ The Fed, an economics education summer program for low-to-moderate income fourth through sixth grade students in the Kansas City area.
The Student Board members share interactive economics education lessons with the students from June-August. Activities encourage financial literacy and an understanding of the Bank’s role in the economy.
Participants in the program come from organizations that have summer programs already in place, including:
Six of the Student Board members serve as activity directors who lead interactive learning activities and care for visiting campers, while one former summer staff member serves as an assistant program director and coordinates the day-to-day logistics.
The summer program gives these college-bound high school graduates the opportunity to boost their job skills with professional development activities and serve as role models and mentors to younger students.
Activities related to the summer program take place at the Bank’s headquarters in Kansas City, our Money Museum and at offsite locations throughout the community.
