What is the TechEdge the program?
The Techedge program provides a pathway for entry-level talent to start their technical careers at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City
What is the length of program?
The length of the program is 9 months. During this period employees rotate through 4 or 5 technical teams across various functional areas where they are immersed in a comprehensive development experience.
What is the length of rotations?
Rotations typically last 4 to 12 weeks based on the learning objectives for the functional area.
What happens after the completion of the program?
Upon successful completion of the program, employees are transitioned to a team where they continue to apply technical and professional skills toward the delivery of meaningful and impactful solutions.
What would be the qualifications of an ideal candidate?
- Bachelor's degree required, specialty in an information technology or engineering field preferred.
- Familiarity with software development methodologies, standards, and frameworks.
- Strong organizational, project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
- Interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
The TechEdge program provides the employee an opportunity to contribute toward the construction and/or delivery of impactful and meaningful solutions.
What are the possible team rotations?
Rotations are generally aligned with employee’s strength and interest. They are structured to provide the employee an extended perspective on various technical functional areas. Rotations are assigned from the following options:
- Software Development
- Development Operations
- Software Quality Assurance
- Information Security
- Business Intelligence
- MiddleWare Operations
- Research Automation
- IT Audit
- Project Management
- Business Analysis
Is there a difference between TechEdge software developers and other software developers?
The TechEdge software developer position is an entry level position. Other software developer positions generally require previous professional work experience.
Is TechEdge required to become a software developer at the Bank?
Candidates recruited through the Bank’s campus recruiting program generally go through the TechEdge program as a pathway to a technology career at the Bank.
Do I need security clearance?
Some positions require access to confidential supervisory information, which is limited to "Protected Individuals" as defined in the U.S. immigration law. Protected Individuals include, but are not limited to, U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals, U.S. permanent residents who are not yet eligible to apply for naturalization and U.S. permanent residents who have applied for naturalization within six months of being eligible to do so. In some cases, positions require additional levels of background screenings where a candidate may be subject to further investigation based on level and type of access within the job. Prospective hires will be informed of this if applicable.
What is my status as an employee of the Bank? What will happen after nine months? Am I an intern or a full time employee?
- Participants who are hired as full time employees spend nine months in the TechEdge program and thereafter are transitioned to a team within a functional technical area.
- Participants who are hired as interns work full time for 10-12 weeks throughout the summer.
