The post-crisis banking environment has been challenging for community banks. Increased regulation has escalated bank costs and regulatory risk, while consumer and business demand for technology-based access to services and products has required banks to provide new products that are costly and create new risks that must be managed. These two factors are unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. Meanwhile low interest rates since 2008 have been a key factor for historically low net interest income, the primary source of community bank revenue. This conference will bring together bankers and industry experts to discuss these changes in the banking environment, how they have affected community banks, and what community banks are doing to remain successful.
