How to Participate

If your organization is interested in participating in the Jump$tart Your Money Week, you can plan and host a wide range of financial education events that will then be listed in the JYM Week Calendar of Events. Scheduling an event during this week will gain increased media coverage for your organization as well as strengthen this statewide initiative.

Financial education issues cut across all ages, income and geographies. Our goal is to highlight the range of financial education services needed by Oklahomans and opportunities for meeting those needs. An event that serves your organization's community and clients could include seminars on identity theft, credit repair, retirement planning; presentations to school groups on money management or goal setting; hosting a Junior Achievement event; or setting up a display on local resources at a public library. You may find additional ideas by reviewing the Calendar of Events or by talking with Jennifer Wallis (jwallis@cccsok.org, 405-384-3472) or Pamela Gutel (pamela.gutel@kc.frb.org, 405-270-8617) about other opportunities. You can also view the 2005 Calendar, 2006 Calendar, and the 2007 Calendar for ideas.

By participating in the Jump$tart Your Money Week, organizations will benefit through:

  • Increased organizational visibility through inclusion in the event's marketing materials,
  • Support in developing and distributing press releases to local media about the organization and its events, and
  • Assistance from Jump$tart Coalition members in designing and hosting an appropriate event, if needed.

The following steps describe the process for hosting an event during the Jump$tart Your Money Week and having it included on the Calendar of Events:

  • Identify a financial education event to implement during the week of April 21 through 27. Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition members will be available to discuss ideas for activities, if needed.
  • Submit a Jump$tart Your Money Week Project Description Form describing your organization and the planned event. You may fill out the form online (Project Description Form Online) or download the Project Description Form (Project Description Form Word Document) and submit it to Annette Phillips by fax at (405)270-8676.
  • This year, we are entering the JYM Week events on OPUBCO's new event Web site, Wimgo. The site should bring increased awareness to our projects, since it a public site and anyone looking for events could come across JYM Week events. Additionally, OPUBCO has started promoting Wimgo in an advertising campaign, which should drive people to the site.
