MAIN STREETS OF TOMORROW
GROWING AND FINANCING RURAL ENTREPRENEURS
Entrepreneurs will play a crucial role in the economic future of rural
areas, yet many rural communities are not providing the kind of
environment necessary for these new businesses to succeed and prosper.
The
Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's Center for the Study of Rural
America will focus on the important role entrepreneurs can have in rural
America during: "Main Streets of Tomorrow: Growing and Financing Rural
Entrepreneurs," the Center's fourth annual national conference addressing
issues vital to rural America.
Officials from the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Organisation for
Economic Co-Operation and Development along with experts from government,
business, agriculture, banking and academe will explore how public policy
can foster more business starts on Main Street. The conference will
highlight several policies that encourage entrepreneuers, including fiscal
measures, education, business assistance, and new sources of equity
capital. The policy discussion will draw on recent efforts in Ohio and
Maine and a new study of entreprenuership by the OECD.
The
event will be held April 28-29 in Kansas City, Mo. There is a $400
registration fee. For more information about the conference, please call
1-800-333-1010, ext. 6864. Registration ends April 11.
